Tis the season for folks getting engaged in Kansas City and I had the pleasure of witnessing one the day after Christmas. I absolutely love being a Kansas City proposal photographer. These shoots are rare but I love doing them. I love the sneakiness of it all and the rush that comes with being there but yet having to be hidden. Being a proposal photographer in Kansas City requires a balance between being a hunter and a photojournalist. I often feel as nervous as the soon to be groom I am sure. I was contacted by Libby’s family about the plan for Drew to propose on the Plaza the day after Christmas and they asked if I could be there to document it all. The original plan was for the wedding proposal to be on the Plaza with the Plaza lights. However, mother nature had another plan so it was to take place in the bar of the Intercontinental hotel instead. All worked out perfectly and the rain even added an unexpected element to the shoot that I liked making for a really interesting portrait of the couple. The night concluded with a bus ride to Grand Street cafe where the entire family had dinner to celebrate the couple. What a great shoot.
Here are a few of my favorites from the night. Congrats Libby and Drew!
You did a wonderful job capturing the evening. Especially liked the “umbrella” shots-great idea!
