What a joy it was to document another Shaw family wedding.
A couple of years ago I had the pleasure of documenting the first wedding of the Shaw family. Sarah and Art.
I quickly became very fond of the Shaw’s. It really was such a joy to watch their family dynamic again as the second of three daughters, Katie, got married.
The Shaw’s just get it. They let me completely into their lives and let me do what I do best.
But I gotta say they do not always make it easy. First off they are busy people and with each wedding I never get to meet the grooms before the wedding and barely knew the brides. In addition, the Shaw girls also complicate things by only referring to their siblings by their nicknames. Just one of the many ways this family rolls.
I had only really known Katie from Sarah’s wedding and a one hour meeting the week of the big day. I had never officially met Matt until the rehearsal dinner. It did not matter. They both are such wonderfully inviting people that treat you like you have been friends for life. It must be a family trait as all of them are that way. They are some of the nicest, classiest people I know and their events reflect that. They are so well done and at the same time so welcoming and down to earth. Katie and Matt’s wedding did not disappoint.
So here is to you Koot and Gibby! Congrats on your new life together. It was great seeing you again Seuss. Great getting to know you Twoot and thank you to Mr and Mrs. Shaw and Matt’s family for letting me into your lives.

The details:
Ceremony- Grace and Holy Trinity
Reception- The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Flowers and Decor- Studio Dan Meiners
Coordinator- Georganne Hall
Koot and her sister Amy (twoot) share a laugh.
Gibby gets ready by himself in his hotel room.
Katie and her mom get their makeup done together.
This pretty much sums up the Shaw sisters. Twoot taking advantage of a moment to help break the tension as Koot and Seuss seriously discuss the dress. True sisterhood.
I found this funny. Sarah and Amy both wrote on the chalkboard in the bridal room at the church. Kind of shows their two personalities.
History repeats itself. The sisters all attended Grace and Holy Trinity as kids and remember having sunday school in this room where Sarah and Amy practice their speech. I have almost the same image of Katie and Amy from Sarah’s wedding.
Katie and her dad wait for the call.
Time for a quick portrait at my favorite new spot.
The cocktail hour at the Nelson.
Katie’s dad gives a very heartwarming toast.
First dance.
I love this shot of Katie’s mom and sister watching the father/daughter dance.
Matt and his mom had a wonderful dance that echoed the saying- “dance like no one is watching”.
Sarah and Art.
Thanks for letting be a part of your family again!
