Nicole and Derek came to me via our good friends over at Blue Bouquet. I was at a bridal show with Boothbooth and over walks Neil, owner of Blue Bouquet with a gal in tow. He says, “You gotta meet Nicole, you are the perfect photographer for her.” He was right. From my first meeting with her I knew this was going to be a great wedding. Both Nicole and Derek live comfortably with their dog, Maddie, and their wedding mirrored the way they live. It was the perfect combo of comfortable and elegant. The ceremony was held at the Church of the Resurrection and the reception was held at Saddle and Sirloin. Nicole and Derek both love the Kentucky derby, which was perfect because their wedding day fell on the same day as the derby. Therefore they reflected their love of the Kentucky Derby and used that as the inspiration for the demeanor of their wedding reception. Guests had a great time sporting their big hats, they were welcomed at their reception via horse and carriage, each table had Kentucky Derby trivia, there were horses grazing not far from dinner, and the DJ, Jeff Holmes of Holmes Music World, was able to spin all of his favorite horse themed music. On top of it all I was able to have my good friend Janine McClintock shoot with me.

Married!
It was a little “hot” that day…..

Love this image. I think it totally sums up Nicole and Derek. They are never anything but themselves.
After the ceremony Nicole and Derek forwent portraits and did something way more meaningful. They decided to take a detour to go to their house and pick up Maddie, their dog. Then they went to a back entrance of Saddle and Sirloin and traded their caddy for a horse and carriage as their entrance.
The grand entrance to the reception complete with streamers.
A very fast 3 minute portrait session and then back to the party.
First dance.
Fun with hats.
Cake cutting is a serious business. Especially if you are a kid.
Great moment during the cake cutting between Kelly’s mom and Derek’s mom.
Most enthusiastic anniversary dance I have seen yet.
This was great and really proved how laid back Nicole was all day. The reception was in a tent powered by a generator. Twice in the night it ran out of gas and power was lost instantly. They got it running very fast but it made for a pretty fun unpredictable night. Here Nicole cheers as it happens for the second time.

This was my favorite moment of the night. Unfourtunatly Derek’s mother suffered a foot injury weeks prior to the wedding and had to attend in a wheel chair. She understandably was a bit bummed over this. At the very last song of the night she was wheeled onto the dance floor to join in the festivities. It was so great to see her do that and share in the dancing.
On the way to the hotel.
Thanks for letting us be a part of your family for the day.
